PSLE Chinese, O Level Chinese, A Level Chinese Tuition

Chinese is a subject that many students detest. And when students detest a subject, especially language, they tend to fare very badly in it. For subjects like Science, you can still bomb some answers out of the air if you do not know, but for Chinese there is not much you can really do if you do not know the words or what the question is asking.

Scoring well in Chinese at PSLE, O Level, and A Level might be a difficult thing to do if the student is not exposed to all sorts of Chinese words & practices daily. Listening to Chinese radio, watching Chinese shows are some methods teachers employ to teach students. Some Chinese tutors employ more traditional tactics for students to learn, such as regular 听写 (ting1 xie3) and 习字 (xi2 zi4) for students to learn new words and idioms.

However luckily, the current Chinese syllabus does not require the student to know every single word in the passage/question to be able to answer the questions. For Comprehension, there is a certain skill for answering questions that are literal/inferential, to copy and paste similar texts. For Composition, exposure to the many words and idioms, vocabulary, and understanding the meaning would be sufficient – students can use the dictionary for the strokes of the word.
